Wanene Shi Book One – English Translation

He slowly extended one foot beyond the prison gate.

He inhaled deeply, filling his lungs with a strange new atmosphere before releasing the breath again.

It was the air of freedom.

He clearly remembered being told that he still had three months remaining before his release. However, earlier that day, officials unexpectedly arrived and announced that an order had come from above instructing them to release him immediately.

One of the prison officers quietly moved aside and placed a phone against his ear.

Lowering his voice, he said:

“Hello, sir. Barde has been released!”

The man on the other end suddenly jumped in shock, almost throwing his phone away.

“Who the hell authorised his release? His time isn’t over yet!”

The prison officer answered:

“I swear I don’t know. I am equally surprised by what happened.”

Speaking with alarm and anger, the man issued an immediate order.

“Call the team and tell them that their target is outside. They must hunt him down before he hunts us.

“That man is like a starving tiger that has spent years searching for something to devour. Now, without warning, they have released him. Tell the team to kill him!”

“Okay,” the officer replied before ending the call.

He immediately began contacting the other members of their organisation, informing them that Barde was free.

Meanwhile, Barde continued walking without knowing exactly where he intended to go.

His mind remained occupied by strange thoughts. Sometimes he felt completely sane, but at other times even he could not understand the condition of his own mind.

Suddenly, he stopped.

He stared at a man on the opposite side of the road. The man was crouched beside a motorcycle, apparently repairing it.

After studying him briefly, Barde resumed walking.

He approached a small roadside stall where phone recharge cards were being sold.

He crouched, drew a strange message on the ground, and then hurried away without saying anything.

The recharge-card seller stepped outside and watched him leave, believing he might be mentally unstable.

Then the seller lowered his eyes towards what Barde had written on the ground.

He jumped so violently that he nearly fell.

He did not even stop to close his stall. He quickly mounted his motorcycle and placed his phone against his ear.

He remained silent for a few seconds before speaking.

“Boss, I swear he is out!”

A voice responded from the other end of the call…
