It was an enormous compound consisting of three separate sections.
The house was exceptionally magnificent and beautifully constructed—something that could hardly be properly described unless one saw it with their own eyes.
Close to one side of the compound’s gate stood a small flat containing two bedrooms, a sitting room and a bathroom.
The flat also had a small veranda surrounded with tiles. Beside it was a water tap with a small cemented area constructed around it.
The Seventeen-Year-Old Girl at the Tap
A young girl who could not have been more than seventeen years old was kneeling in front of the tap, washing several dishes placed before her.
She was wearing an ash-coloured hijab with sleeves that reached down to her knees.
Inside the veranda, an elderly man was lying on a mat, with a radio playing beside him.
Slowly, and for what seemed like the countless time, the girl raised her head and looked towards her father, who was still lying there.
For the past two days, he had been suffering from a mild fever and pain in his leg.
She raised her long fingers to her forehead, where soft strands of hair lay neatly against her skin.
She wiped away the sweat because the sun was extremely hot that day.
Although it was the harmattan season in the town, they were experiencing intense heat, especially on that particular Friday.
She Continues With Her Housework
Calmly, she lowered her head again and continued washing the dishes.
She was eager to finish quickly so that she could begin preparing lunch for herself and her father.
Suddenly, the sound of a car horn came from outside the compound gate.
She immediately dropped the dish she was washing and quickly stood up, almost stumbling in the process when she noticed her father attempting to get up.
In her exceptionally gentle voice, she said:
“Baba, please let me open it.”
Her father smiled as he watched her head towards the enormous gate and begin trying to open it.
He knew she could manage it because there were times when the two of them opened the gate together.
The Massive Gate Opens
The gate consisted of two large sections.
When opened from the centre, the two sides spread apart like the pages of a book.
Her father watched as she removed the lock and pulled one side of the gate aside.
She then moved to the other section and pulled that side open as well.
Luxury Vehicles Enter the Compound
A massive Prado Jeep immediately drove into the compound.
Behind it followed two smaller Honda sports cars.
The young girl followed the impressive vehicles with her eyes as they moved deeper into the compound.
They continued towards the enormous parking area, which was already filled with an impressive collection of expensive and luxurious vehicles.
