Yar Zaman Daki Book One Complete Hausa Novel

Khalid could hardly contain his happiness. Filled with excitement, love and affection, he held Zarah’s hand and led her towards their section of the house.

As soon as they arrived, Khalid wrapped his arms around Zarah, winked at her with one eye and said:

“Habibity, have you seen how beautiful you look?”

Before Zarah could respond, they suddenly heard a faint voice saying:

“No matter how beautiful she is, she is only as beautiful as a chicken.”

A Strange Voice Interrupts Khalid and Zarah

Both of them turned around in shock.

Khalid immediately moved towards the window and began looking outside.

Then he asked:

“Zarah, surely no one from those who escorted the bride here was left behind, right?”

Zarah replied nervously:

“Only the girl staying in the room. Who knows, maybe she is hiding somewhere and playing tricks on us.”

Khalid tried to dismiss the thought and said:

“Come on, Walida would not do something like that. For now, just pass me that bag containing the chicken.”

Zarah immediately stepped backwards with her eyes widened in fear.

She said:

“Me? If you see me near that chicken again, then know that I must have been carried there after death. I heard it clearly with my own ears—the chicken spoke. Khalid, are you even sure this house was properly blessed with Qur’anic recitation before we came here?”

Khalid Refuses to Believe the Chicken Spoke

Khalid walked over and picked up the bag containing the chicken while saying:

“Apart from superstition, how can a chicken possibly speak? You are only frightening yourself.”

After saying that, he opened the chicken and spread it out for both of them.

They sat down together, although Zarah was still far from completely relaxed.

Khalid picked up a large chicken thigh, tore off a piece of meat and stretched it towards Zarah.

He said:

“Open your mouth, my love.”

Zarah opened her mouth.

Just as Khalid was about to place the meat inside, she suddenly felt as though the flesh had been pulled away from the bone, leaving nothing but the bare bone.

Zarah remained with her mouth open, staring directly at Khalid.

Khalid, however, had not noticed what had just happened.

The Mysterious Chicken Speaks Again

He tore off another piece of chicken and offered it to her.

This time, Zarah managed to eat it.

But after chewing only once, she suddenly heard a voice say:

“Wayyooo! My thigh! I am the chicken!”

Zarah immediately turned towards Khalid and said:

“Hubby, did you hear what I just heard?”

Khalid put a piece of meat into his own mouth and continued chewing before replying:

“Zarah, please calm yourself down. You are in your own home now. Do not keep frightening yourself.”

There was nothing more she could do.

She pressed her lips together and remained silent because it was obvious that Khalid did not believe what she was telling him.

When he offered her another piece of chicken, she signalled that she was already full.

She drank a little soft drink instead, but even then her heart remained filled with uncertainty and suspicion.

Khalid Remembers the Medicine From His Friends

After they finished eating, Khalid suddenly remembered a certain medicine his friends had given him.

He quickly stood up and, trying not to make his intention obvious, walked towards the kitchen.

Once there, he opened the container and drank all of the medicine inside.

Meanwhile, as soon as Khalid left the room, Zarah also opened her handbag.

She took out a herbal mixture that someone had given her and drank it.

The moment she heard Khalid approaching again, she quickly threw the container underneath the bed.

Khalid Prepares for Prayer

When Khalid returned, he removed his clothes and wrapped a towel around himself.

Then he said:

“Dear, let me take a quick shower. After that, we will perform ablution and pray.”

Zarah responded shyly, lowering her head as though she was overwhelmed by embarrassment.

She remained seated while Khalid entered the bathroom.
