Mallam Musa Continues Talking
The blind young man gradually became irritated with Mallam Musa’s endless talking because he naturally disliked too much conversation and unnecessary noise.
To make matters worse, Mallam Musa himself did not know how to speak quietly.
With his usual reserved and difficult expression, the young man frowned and attempted to enter the compound.
Mallam Musa followed him with his eyes and said:
“Look at this arrogance and stubbornness. You are disabled, yet you are still full of pride. Now you have been driven out and left wandering around.”
Mamy Welcomes the Blind Man

Alhaji returned his greeting and gave him permission to sit down.
Khalifa sat on the soft centre carpet spread across the middle of the living room.
He said:
“Good afternoon, Daddy.”
Daddy replied:
“I’m fine, Khalifa.”
Khalifa gave Mamy a brief glance before immediately looking away.
Almost as though he was being forced to speak, he said:
“Good afternoon, Mamy.”
Mamy replied:
“I’m fine, Ma’eesha’s groom.”
She accompanied her reply with a mischievous laugh.
The Family Waits for Ma’eesha
Silence immediately filled the living room.
Mamy waited for Daddy to say something, but he remained silent.
His mind seemed completely occupied with something else.
She called:
“Alhaji.”
He remained silent.
She called him again, and it was only after calling him for the third time that he finally returned from his thoughts.
He answered:
“Yes?”
Mamy said:
“He is here to take the bride he was told to come and collect, yet you have left him sitting here.”
Daddy replied:
“I already called Ma’eesha. She is on her way back.”
Mamy said:
“Okay, then wait for your bride to arrive and the two of you can leave. She went to have henna applied and get her hair done.”
Khalifa did not say anything.
He simply lowered his head towards the floor and remained silent.
