Umma smiled before addressing her husband.

“Khaleed’s father, everyone is happy today because, Insha Allah, Khaleed is finally close to achieving success,” she announced.

Abba smiled.

“So that is why everyone is celebrating. However, none of you has told me what happened,” he said.

“Khaleed is about to achieve something important,” Umma replied.

“Then tell me exactly what happened,” Abba requested.

Umma explained everything that had happened between Khaleed and Senator Hassan. Abba became extremely happy after hearing the encouraging news. He congratulated his son and prayed that Allah would grant him success.

“He asked me to meet him at his office on Monday,” Khaleed explained.

“May Allah preserve our lives and health until that day,” Abba prayed.

Everyone responded, “Ameen.”

Khaleed Prepares His Documents

Khaleed went into his room and began checking his certificates and other documents.

Meanwhile, Abba turned towards Umma.

“I swear, this is why I am always grateful to have Khaleed as our son. He is calm, patient and responsible,” he said proudly.

Umma smiled.

“That is also why I thank Allah every day,” she replied.

“We must continue supporting him with our prayers. May Allah grant him success and bless him with a righteous wife,” Abba prayed.

“Ameen,” Umma responded.

Shortly afterwards, Khaleed came out of his room.

“Umma, Abba, I want to visit Grandma. Aisha and Umaima, come with me,” he said.

“All right, Brother Khaleed,” the girls answered.

They said goodbye to their parents and left the house.

“Make sure you greet Mama for us,” their parents instructed them.

Khaleed’s Family in Zaria

Mama was Abubakar’s mother. The entire family originated from Zaria.

Mama had given birth to only two children. Abubakar was the eldest, followed by his younger sister, Zainab. Both of them received Islamic and Western education.

Unfortunately, Abubakar could not find a job after completing his education. Their mother had struggled greatly to raise them because their father died shortly after Zainab was born.

When Abubakar failed to secure formal employment, he entered the trading business. He regularly bought goods from Kano and transported them to Zaria for resale.

Zainab later married a man who was involved in a similar business. Her husband was financially comfortable, and Allah blessed their marriage with four children.

Their eldest child was Abdullahi. Their second child was named Abubakar after Zainab’s elder brother. Fadila was the third, while Maryam was the youngest.

Abubakar met Safiyya when she visited a relative who lived close to his family. They became acquainted, fell in love and eventually married.

Khaleed and His Sisters Visit Grandma

When Khaleed and his sisters reached their grandmother’s house, she came out to welcome them.

“Khaleed, is that you coming?” she asked.

“Yes, Grandma,” he answered.

They entered her spacious living room and respectfully greeted her.

“I am delighted that you came to visit me,” Grandma said.

“Do you truly mean that, young lady?” Khaleed asked jokingly.

“I certainly do,” Grandma replied, playing along with him.

“Grandma, I want some water,” Umaima announced.

“I will give you water, but you must not drink it,” Grandma teased.

Khaleed stood up.

“She must drink it, especially since she came here with her elder brother,” he said.

He opened the refrigerator, brought out a bottle of water and handed it to Umaima.

“Thank you, Brother Khaleed. As for the person who refused to give me water…” Umaima stopped without completing her sentence.

“Finish what you wanted to say, you shameless little girl,” Grandma challenged her.

“Grandma, you quarrel too much,” Aisha complained.

“Yes, I do,” Grandma replied without hesitation.

Khaleed Jokes with His Grandmother

Khaleed smiled at his sisters.

“Leave Grandma alone. She is simply jealous. I told her I would bring her a co-wife, and that made her jealousy rise,” he joked.

“May Allah guide you,” Grandma replied. “Why would I become jealous over a man who does not even have a job? I do not receive any money for food from him, so why should I worry about someone reducing it?”

Khaleed smiled.

“That may have been true before, but now, Insha Allah, the employment we used to joke about might finally become a reality,” he said.

Grandma looked at him with confusion.

“I do not understand what you mean,” she said.

Khaleed explained everything that had happened between him and Senator Hassan. His grandmother became extremely happy after hearing the news and offered sincere prayers for his success.

They continued talking for some time before Khaleed stood up.

“Grandma, we should be leaving now,” he said.

“Are you leaving already?” she asked.

“Yes, young lady. We also want to visit Mummy Fadila,” Khaleed replied.

Mummy Fadila was Zainab, their father’s younger sister. The family commonly referred to her by her daughter’s name.

“All right. Make sure you greet her for me,” Grandma instructed.

“She will receive your greeting, Insha Allah,” Khaleed promised.

Khaleed and his sisters left their grandmother’s house. They talked and laughed throughout the journey, enjoying the love and happiness they shared as siblings.

Arriving at Mummy Fadila’s House

When they reached Mummy Fadila’s house, they offered the Islamic greeting and entered.

Fadila immediately rushed forward and embraced Khaleed.

“Welcome, Brother Khaleed!” she exclaimed.

Her mother came out and looked at the visitors.

“Khaleed, is that you?” she asked.

“Yes, Mummy. It is us,” he replied.

Aisha and Umaima respectfully greeted their aunt. Fadila tried to speak with Aisha, but Aisha deliberately ignored her.

“So it is only now that you have noticed me? Please leave me alone,” Aisha complained.

Fadila laughed.

“Come on, my friend. Please do not start a quarrel between us,” she pleaded.

“We heard about everything a long time ago,” Mummy said.

“Then you should not have heard anything,” Aisha replied playfully.

They all entered the house, and Fadila took Aisha by the hand and led her into her room.

Another Celebration for Khaleed

Khaleed greeted his aunt again.

“Khaleed, how are Aunty Safiyya and your father?” she asked.

“They are both healthy,” he answered.

She then looked at Umaima.

“Umaima, will you not say anything?” she asked.

“Mummy, where is the thing you promised to bring for me?” Umaima immediately demanded.

Mummy smiled.

“So you still remember that promise, Your Highness Umaima?” she asked.

Umaima laughed.

“Our youngest sister never forgets anything,” Khaleed remarked.

“I can see that clearly,” Mummy replied.

Khaleed then told his aunt that, Insha Allah, he was close to securing a job. She became extremely happy after hearing the encouraging news and prayed for his success.

After spending some time together, Khaleed said, “Mummy, we should return home because it is getting late.”

“All right. Do you still communicate with your friend?” she asked.

“We spoke with Abdullahi earlier. He is still in Sudan, working hard on his studies,” Khaleed explained.

Mummy went inside and returned with plenty of sweets for Umaima.

Khaleed then stood and went to Fadila’s room.

Aisha and Fadila Discuss Their Friend

“You two chatterboxes, we are leaving,” Khaleed announced.

Aisha and Fadila burst into laughter.

“My friend, bring the things you said Mummy bought for me,” Aisha reminded her.

“Okay,” Fadila replied.

She brought out some makeup products and several beautiful scarves.

“My friend, when will Fatima return?” Aisha asked.

“Honestly, we will have to call her and ask,” Fadila answered.

Fatima was their close friend and the daughter of one of Aisha’s father’s closest friends. They all lived in Zaria, but Fatima had travelled to Kano for a holiday at the home of her married elder sister.

Umaima Becomes Jealous

Aisha and Fadila returned to the living room, where they found Mummy with Umaima, who was busy enjoying her sweets.

“Mummy, we are leaving now,” Khaleed said.

“All right, Khaleed. Greet everyone at home for me,” she replied.

“They will receive your greeting, Insha Allah,” he assured her.

Aisha thanked Mummy for the makeup and scarves she had bought for her.

Umaima immediately looked at her aunt.

“Mummy, what about me?” she asked.

“I will also buy something for you, but not now. Do you understand, my little girl?” Mummy replied.

Umaima became quiet as tears gathered in her eyes.

“Sister, do not cry. I will buy something for you,” Khaleed promised.

Her face immediately brightened.

“Thank you, Brother Khaleed. But do not buy anything for Aisha,” she added.

“I have heard you,” Khaleed replied with a smile.

“What a troublesome little girl,” Mummy remarked.

Khaleed led his sisters out of the house.

“Aisha, we will see each other at the Qur’anic memorisation class,” Fadila called after them.

“Okay,” Aisha replied.

Khaleed and his sisters then returned home together because all their relatives lived within the same neighbourhood.
