Cinikin Rai Book One Complete Hausa Novel English Translation
Many times, people benefit from what comes to them, not from what they expect. Sometimes, what is available is what one uses to cover a wound. A wound that can bring its owner down into poverty is not a small wound.
“Xnooooooo!”
That was the name the group of stubborn young people like her used to call her.
She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling of the room.
“Oh my Allah, I did not live like Cinderella, and I did not live like a Barbie queen. Yet today, I have ended up in the camp of troublesome people.”
She bit her lips and opened the window of her room.
“Which useless person called me a hunter? I will deal with someone’s father if I come out. Scatter before I step outside.”
“May Allah calm your heart, scorpion girl,” someone said.
She closed her eyes, shut the window, and headed toward the part of the house that led inside.
Just then, someone knocked on the door.
“Zenobia! Please open the door!”
She shouted, “Was it not yesterday that your father said he should never see you with me again?”
“Mtseeeew, I brought food for you.”
“Whether it is food or not, what kind of food?”
She moved toward her drawer and picked up her toothpaste and toothbrush.
The house was a large rented building with many rooms and even upper floors. She lived on the third floor.
She came out with a towel tied over her head because Allah had blessed her with thick hair. Slowly, her eyes landed on her friend.
“Xno, I am waiting for you.”
Zenobia looked away and continued walking, while the friend entered her room and started arranging things for her.
Life in Al’umma Charity House
The lower part of the house was like a marketplace. Different tribes from different corners of the country of Gista lived there. From the second floor, people began noticing that Yar Kunama was coming down, and they started scattering.
She was like a lioness. She never accepted mixing herself with others carelessly.
Two elderly women entered the bathroom, washed it, poured foam powder and disinfectant, then rinsed it properly. When she arrived, some young girls collected her bucket, poured hot water into it, mixed it, and carried it to the bathroom.
She entered the bathroom and looked around.
“Inna, write down everything that is missing in this house before later,” she said.
“It is done, blessed child,” Inna replied as she turned away.
That day was supposed to be her first day at work, but she did not feel ready for the job at all. Still, the favor Mr. Amjad had done for her was enough to make her understand that her life was about to change.
She smiled as she looked at herself.
She had barely managed to finish secondary school. After that, she entered college, and with difficulty, she completed a diploma in Business. Inna had encouraged her to continue so that people would not look down on her.
Even with that, anyone could still understand that English was not her strength. If someone was looking for a person who could disgrace the English language, Zeenobia would surely be the first person to receive the award.
That was why she focused more on being different. Many people outside feared her badly. But inside the house, she was the one who protected people. To her, they were her life. Not even for one day did she wish to be far from them.
She knew their worth. That was why, even if she were to die, she never wished for death to take her while their eyes watched.
She began bathing, then heard people shouting. She did not stop until she finished and came out.
Abbas Is Hurt
She looked at a young man whose face was injured and stained with blood, showing that he had been beaten.
“Which useless person beat you, Abbas?” she asked.
Even though she was far behind, people quickly opened a path for her.
Abbas turned one way, then turned again, showing his slow and confused nature.
“My Abbas, who beat you?” she asked.
“They… they… they…”
She moved closer and held his hand.
“Tell me!”
“They said it was because I took milk and gave it to Hibba. That was why her brothers beat me,” he said, tears falling from his eyes.
His mother could not speak. She only wiped her tears.
Someone said, “Honestly, they did not do well. Everyone knows how much he loves Hibba. He should not have been insulted like this.”
Zenobia held Abbas’s hand and asked, “What do you want me to do to them?”
He answered, “Tell them to stop beating me.”
She held his right hand and took him to his mother’s room, where the woman was crying.
“Ammiy, are you crying? I thought you would stop crying since Allah gave him life and health. He is a great engineer. Big companies are looking for him, but when they see him like this, they think he cannot work. But you must know that you are the one breaking his confidence. From today, my Abbas will not be beaten by any fool again.”
She left the room.
His mother looked at him weakly and said, “Your father caused this life for you. If he had not forced himself into that life, no one would have hurt you.”
Zenobia stopped suddenly.
“What do you mean, Ammiy?”
“Nothing, Zenobia.”
Zenobia closed her eyes and walked away. She felt uneasy, but today the feeling was heavier than usual.
Zenobia Prepares for Her First Day
When she entered her room, she closed the door and removed the towel.
“You have no manners at all. You cannot rest until you bring poverty into people’s minds,” her friend said.
Zenobia only smiled and continued dressing. She did not care about Hafsah Ameen, who was inside the room.
She touched the scar lying near her shoulder and asked,
“Hafsy, on the day you people found me, was I already carrying this scar?”
“Yes, we found you with that mark.”
“Hmm.”
She dressed neatly in a dark green American-style skirt and blouse. Then she picked up several chains and poured them around her neck. Her hands looked as if a competition for displaying rings was taking place. After that, she picked up an unusually high pair of shoes and wore them.
Hafsy looked at her and said, “Xno, are you going to the office dressed like this, as if you are going for madness?”
Zenobia looked at herself in the mirror and replied, “I prefer to think I am coming from Troy instead of madness.”
No one could beat her in sharp speech, no matter whose child the person was.
On the other hand, Xno did not care much about beauty routines. It was not her fault; the life of being different was more pleasing to her than painting her face. She applied only light powder and lip gloss.
Slowly, she looked at herself.
Hafsy began, “I respect the man who will…”
Zenobia turned and threw her a sharp look.
“I will insult you,” she said before Hafsy could finish.
“May Allah calm the heart of Yar Kunama,” Hafsy replied.
Zenobia smiled, then headed out. Hafsy followed behind her.
“Please, do not start any fight today. For the past two days, I have not had money to pay bail.”
Zenobia turned to her and said, “Give me my bag.”
Hafsy handed her the bag and said, “May Allah grant you success on your first day in the office.”
Zenobia gave a half-smile and said, “I do not have your time.”
The People Wish Her Well
She went down the stairs slowly. She wore trousers and a top, grey palazzo pants with a grey shirt and a black inner top. The chains around her neck added to her strange beauty. She tied her natural hair backward with a ribbon and wore a black turban that suited her very well.
As she came down, people greeted her.
“Good morning, Aunty.”
“Good morning, schoolchildren.”
“Good morning, Yar Kunama.”
“Good morning, Mr. Umar.”
When she reached the ground floor, she turned and looked at everyone in the house.
“Is there anything new today?”
Immediately, everyone moved toward her, eager to know what new thing she wanted to hear.
“Nothing, Zenobia,” they answered.
She closed her eyes and asked, “Where is Abbas?”
“He is in his room.”
She smiled and said, “Mami, take care of him.”
Then she told everyone, “You said there is nothing?”
“Nothing, child.”
“Alright then. Pray for me. Today, I am starting work.”
She headed toward her vehicle. Some young men were standing beside it. It was a rough, open vehicle without proper covering, like a small caterpillar truck. She entered, while three or four people climbed into the back.
One of them sat beside the driver.
“Take me to Hibba’s house,” she said.
“Done.”
The driver took her to a house not far from theirs.
Zenobia Defends Abbas
The driver said, “But my queen, there is favoritism in this. You know Abbas is not fully well.”
She turned and looked at him.
“So what?”
He became silent.
She continued, “I thought you were someone who pitied him. His father built this house for rent so that it would support his only son’s life. In the end, he died without anyone knowing the cause. He also attached the name of the community to the house documents. Do you know the struggle we went through before this house became his property? And you live in the house. How much do you pay every month?”
She glared at him as if she would slap him.
They arrived at Hibba’s house.
She placed her bag, which had been on her lap, aside. Then she went to the back of the vehicle. One of the young men came down and asked,
“My queen, what should I give you?”
“A whip.”
He handed her a whip, but she did not collect it immediately. She turned toward the young men outside Hibba’s house.
They stood and said, “If you came because of that slow boy, then turn back quickly.”
She nodded and asked, “Which useless person beat him?”
“We all beat him.”
“You made a mistake by beating him. Give me the whip, Dondurus.”
The man truly suited his name because he was huge and heavily built. He handed her the whip. She removed the top layer of her outfit and gave it to him.
“My queen, this work is ours,” one of the young men said.
“Black, let me deal with them.”
The name suited him because he was very dark-skinned.
One of the boys laughed and said, “Can she really do anything to us? We beat him. Let her do whatever she wants.”
The driver warned, “My queen, leave them. You do not know their stubbornness.”
She turned and gave him a harsh look.
“Anything I cannot defeat in front of me, I do not fear. It only means I have not placed it in my mind yet. Paul!” she called his real name.
She held the whip, turning it in her hand. Anyone who saw her would know that her anger had reached its peak.
Paul moved forward quickly. She entered the middle of the boys.
One of them said, “You street girl, leave this place, or we will beat you.”
She replied, “I agree. If any of you succeeds in even scratching my body, I will allow you to do whatever you want. But if you fail, I will whip your backsides.”
She said this while looking at them. They knew she could do it, but it was a shame to them that people were saying their sister loved someone like Abbas.
One of them began, “Look, Zeeno, you know…”
She struck his thigh with the whip, and he jumped.
“You should have listened to us first so we could explain.”
She said nothing and continued whipping him. When the others saw how she was dealing with him, they panicked.
“Zenobia, please leave us. Go inside and meet our father. He was the one who sent us.”
She threw the whip aside and entered the house.
Zenobia Meets Hibba’s Father
An elderly man was seated inside, along with three strong-looking men.
“Sir, good morning,” she said.
He raised his head and looked at her before saying, “Are you Zeenobia?”
“Yes, sir. I am Zeeno, Xno, Yar Kunama.”
“What brought you here?”
In a calm voice, she said, “I did not come here with any bad intention. I only came to tell you that your daughter loves Abbas, and Abbas loves her too.”
She continued, “Sir, I have loved Abbas from the first day I saw him, but unfortunately, Abbas does not love me. You know what it means to love someone who loves another person. It is the height of suffering. But he loves Hibba with all his heart.”
She added, “Even his mother does not know he loves Hibba, but he told me. Sir, despite his condition, by Allah, he will give your daughter every happiness in life. All the rent money paid in Al’umma Charity House belongs to him. At least ten million is paid every year. If it is a luxurious life you want, he can buy her expensive things. But there is only one thing I want to tell you: if you say you will not give her to him, that is your decision. But do not ever make the mistake of beating him again.”
The man asked, “And if he is beaten, what will you do?”
In anger, she picked up a glass jug and struck one of the men in the face with it. He felt as if he had hit a wall.
She pointed at him and said, “I am not talking to you. This is a family issue.”
Then she turned to the elder.
“Today is my lucky day. I am going to work. Sir, I will give you one piece of advice: give him your daughter, or prepare yourself for trouble.”
She stood and left the sitting room.
After she left, the elder said, “Do you know how a person feels when what he loves leaves him? That is exactly how she feels. And there is something I saw in her eyes. She can do anything for that boy. Her heart has made that promise. Call Hibba for me.”
Zenobia Goes to Work
When she came out, Black handed her top back to her. She wore it and sat in the vehicle. She picked up her glasses and wore them, pouting slightly.
As they reached a traffic jam, they were stopped because members of the Keivroto parliament were passing in a convoy. After they passed, traffic was released.
“My queen, there is Mr. Amjad’s car,” the driver said.
She looked at the car, twisted her mouth, and said, “That is their business.”
They headed toward Queen Elizabeth Road and went directly to a huge company. The entrance was busy like a marketplace.
They slowly entered the company compound and parked in the parking area. She came down. Black handed her Charles & Keith bag, and she placed it gently on her shoulder.
As she walked, people followed her with their eyes.
On the company building, the name S Digital Art was written. When she reached the entrance, the door was opened for her. She slowly entered the building, her eyes widening as she looked around.
“Miss Zeenobia Nasr Hadejia?”
She nodded and smiled.
“Come with me.”
She nodded and followed the woman, who was wearing a fitted skirt that reached her knees.
They entered the elevator. The woman smiled at her and pressed number nine. The elevator moved. When it stopped and opened, two young female staff entered.
“Good morning, Miss Mary.”
“Morning, Helima. Morning, Faither.”
One of them asked, “Miss Mary, is this a new employee?”
“Yes.”
Because there was no joking expression on Miss Mary’s face, they did not say what was in their minds. But they were eager to gossip about her because Zeenobia’s beauty, shape, and presence were something they could not ignore. In fact, they had never met a woman like her.
When they reached their floor, they got out.
“See you later, Miss Mary,” they said.
After leaving, the two girls touched each other.
Helima said, “She looks familiar.”
Faither opened her eyes wide and said, “Really?”
“Yes. I know her, but I have forgotten where I know her face from.”
Inside the Office
They reached the ninth floor. The elevator opened slowly, and they came out. They turned to the right and walked with Miss Mary.
When they reached a door, Miss Mary brought out her card and placed it on the security door. The door opened.
“Wow,” Zenobia whispered from deep in her throat.
It was a very beautiful and impressive office.
“Good morning, sir,” Miss Mary said.
The man raised his head and replied, “Morning, Miss Mary. Zeeno, welcome.”
He said this while feeling deeply satisfied by the presence of the girl standing before him.
“Morning, sir,” Zeeno said.
He smiled and said, “Miss Mary, you may go and send Mr. Salim to me.”
“Okay, sir.”
The man stood and said, “Zeeno, sit. Coffee, caffeine, or tea?”
“Coffee without sugar,” she replied while looking at him.
“Wow. You do not like getting fat?” he asked.
She smiled and looked around the office.
He said, “We are happy to welcome you to this blessed company, which we opened less than six weeks ago. However, it is still exactly the way we opened it.”
He handed her the coffee.
She looked at him as if asking what he meant.
He explained, “Since we opened, we have been in need of sponsors, advertisements, and investors.”
The door opened, and a handsome young man entered. He was tall and well-built.
“Good morning,” he said.
“Good morning, Salim. This is Zeenobia Nasr Hadejia, also known as Zeeno, Xno, and Yar Kunama.”
She smiled and crossed one leg over the other.
“Exactly.”
“Nice to meet you,” Salim said, stretching out his hand.
She also stretched out her hand, and they shook hands briefly before releasing each other.
“Sit, Salim.”
The managing director released a breath and said to her, “Mr. Amjad told me about you. That is why we believe it is proper to give you a position where you will interact with our visitors and help bring people to us through our business.”
She swallowed and said, “But he told me that you would give me work in the security service department because that is what suits me.”
“Come on, Xno. We will not employ you as a security worker. We want our company to achieve success. We do not want anything bad to happen to us. I hope you understand what I mean.”
She understood what he said in English, but she hated English. How could she live with something she did not know well?
Without hiding anything, she said, “It is not bad if you give me the head of security service position. I will not even allow a rat to enter this company. But what you are telling me about speaking English, you got the wrong idea because I hate English anymore.”
She said this and picked up her bag.
“Zeeno, you can do it. Sit.”
“Are you a cow or what? I said I do not know English. I said no English. Why must I sit with you by force? Move aside.”
They Use Her Weak Point
The man said, “If you do not accept, I will call Mr. Amjad and tell him. We will change this opportunity for you. Do you not want the lives of the people in Al’umma Charity House to change? We will give you land, build a school and hospital that will take care of you, and we will employ Abbas in the software department.”
Anyone who had lived with Zeenobia Nasr Hadejia knew that Al’umma Charity House and Abbas were her weak points. That was why they touched the exact place they were sure would affect her.
He continued, “We will change your life. Accept our work.”

She stood still, looking at them.
Then she got up and said, “I will go and think about it, but for now, I will not make a direct decision.”
They looked at one another. That was not what Mr. Amjad had told them. He had told them that her weakness was the community and Abbas, but he did not tell them that she was stubborn and had a mind of her own.
She left the office, and no one was able to stop her because her entire mood had changed.
After she left, the managing director called Mr. Amjad and said, “This girl has refused the position we gave her. In fact, she refused to accept it. I even used her weakness and told her about it, but she still refused and said she would think about it.”
The person on the phone sighed and said, “Do not worry. That is how she is. I will handle everything.”
The managing director adjusted his sitting position and asked, “Must it be her? Are there no other girls?”
Mr. Amjad replied, “She is the only one who will give us what we want. She is the only one who can carry some things. You know what? We will use her to achieve our aim for now. We are negotiating with some companies, but there is no sign that they will agree. So calm her down because she will be useful to us.”
“Okay, sir.”
He ended the call quickly, picked up the company landline, and said, “Call that girl for me.”
When the call reached Miss Mary’s office, she quickly came out and began looking for Zeenobia.
She called the security room and asked, “Check for me, has Zeenobia left?”
After about three minutes, they replied, “She is inside the elevator. In ten minutes, she will arrive.”
“Okay.”
Miss Mary went to the elevator door and waited, looking at her wristwatch. She felt as if time was passing too slowly.
Exactly ten minutes later, the door opened. She released a breath of relief.
“Zeenobia, the boss said you should return. I have been waiting for you for a while.”
“But we have finished talking. What does he want again?”
“Please, let us go.”
So she returned into the elevator.
The Political Meeting in Keivroto
Members of parliament under the PKO party, Power Keivroto Own, were gathered together with members of the CDL, Civilian Democrats Labor. There were also powerful company owners from Keivroto, as well as some wealthy elders dressed in grand traditional attire.
Among them was an elderly man who was over fifty years old.
The room was silent. Everyone looked at one another with anger and frustration.
One of the angry men spoke loudly, “Because you have found fools, there is no news from their side? For Allah’s sake, is this how we will sit peacefully? Khuldu Jahid Khan has been sitting here for a long time. At least respect his age. This economic development meeting of Keivroto is being delayed while he is kept waiting here. Is there any justice in this matter? I said, is there justice? Honestly, whoever organized this meeting organized a tea party because Malik…”
The opening of the door made everyone turn toward it. Even the loud man became silent.
Some of the people present released deep breaths and stood in respect. Even the noisy opposition members of CDL stood up. Only Khuldu Jahid Khan remained seated, and his face showed clearly that he was not pleased with the arrival of the man who entered.
He looked away, holding his walking stick.
The man who entered found a seat and sat down. Then he said, “Forgive me, all of you. None of us likes wasting another person’s time. On behalf of Khalquz Zaman, we apologize.”
Someone said, “Sir Elbashir Jamal Arab, we have accepted the apology. But what would have been better is if the Mayor had been told that we were waiting for him, since this gathering was prepared for him.”
Elbashir smiled and said, “Please forgive us. The Mayor will not be able to attend.”
The same loud man said, “How will he attend a meeting where everyone came on their feet while he is in a wheelchair?”
Elbashir Jamal Arab smiled and said, “It seems your defeat affected you deeply, since until today you have not forgotten the pain that came upon you. The people of Keivroto stood firmly and chose what would build them in business. So what brought us here is to discuss and finish. I have a trip to China.”
Khuldu Jahid Khan’s heart shook.
“Could Malik Menk Jordan be planning something else with the Chinese government?” he thought. “What kind of man is this? What kind of luck does he have? I must see the end of Malik Menk Jordan.”
The Accusations Against Mayor Malik
One man said, “Prime Minister, you must intervene. Malik Menk Jordan must allow some businesspeople to produce their goods in this country. Malik Menk Jordan is not a citizen. Everyone knows he is an immigrant. My leader, Khuldu Jahid Khan, has eyewitnesses who confirmed that Malik Menk Jordan is a terrorist who uses his wealth to kill people and force them to accept debts they cannot pay.”
The man called the Prime Minister looked at Elbashir Jamal Arab and asked, “Elbashir Jamal Arab, what is this? Is that what is happening?”
Elbashir smiled and said, “Mr. Prime Minister, many of the people here know Malik Menk Jordan, and he also knows them. Some trust him, and he also trusts them. Malik has the support of almost 108 parliamentarians. He has the approval of the PKO party members, and he has cooperation with the state commissioners.”
He continued, “Above all, in business, we have strong relationships with other countries, considering the strategic coastal position of Keivroto city. Mr. Prime Minister, if we are to talk about what they need, did Malik not do enough for those who nominated him as Mayor? How can he agree to their desires when he also has his own goals?”
Azagwaigwaidu stood angrily and said, “Prime Minister, let the votes be recounted. Sir Khuldu Jahid Khan won, not Malik Menk Jordan. Malik is a useless man, and everyone knows what kind of man he is. Everyone knows that in all his house there is no woman. But Sir Khuldu Jahid Khan has three wives and many daughters whose number people cannot even count. Tell your master not to waste himself. He should go and find even a cheap woman to bear him a child and stop the insults.”
Elbashir adjusted his tie and stared at him before saying, “I excuse you because I was raised by Malik Menk Jordan. He forbade me from insulting anyone.”
The man opened his mouth to speak again, but Mr. Khuldu Jahid Khan said, “Enough!”
He became silent.
Khuldu then asked, “Why will Malik not show up?”
Elbashir adjusted himself and replied, “What is your concern with his showing up? Everything is moving as it should: our business and our politics. So what exactly do you need here?”
Khuldu pointed at about ten men seated in the room.
Elbashir knew them. They had come three days earlier asking Mayor Malik Menk Jordan to invest in their companies, promising to obey him. When their request was refused, they returned here.
Elbashir laughed and said, “Khuldu Jahid Khan.”
Khuldu closed his eyes.
Someone shouted, “Elbashir, you have no respect. How can you call our leader as if he is your playmate?”
Elbashir said, “You dog, I am not speaking to you. I am speaking to your master. If I hear your voice rise again, I will cut your tongue.”
Then he turned back to Khuldu and continued, “You almost made the mistake of accepting Mayor Malik Menk Jordan’s wealth. If you had, you would have regretted it. Even now, we will not leave you alone. You will pay for your sins.”
He added, “And the one you trusted, did he not tell you about his confrontation with the Mayor? Did he tell you why he now walks with a stick?”
Elbashir turned to the Prime Minister.
“Mr. Prime Minister, I have finished my speech. No businessperson will open a new company as long as Mayor Malik Menk Jordan is breathing, if he does not approve such competition.”
He stood up, and his parliamentarians also stood behind him.
Many of them did not know Malik personally, but the positions they held had come through the power of Malik’s name. When Mayor Malik Menk Jordan was mentioned, even the hearts of strong men trembled. The elders of Keivroto feared him deeply. Above all, if anyone touched his wealth, that person’s name was finished.
They escorted Elbashir Jamal Arab to the airport. Only after he boarded the plane did they turn back. This was what true power meant, because even when Malik was not present, Elbashir played a major role on his behalf.
The Prime Minister Is Killed
After Elbashir left, Mr. Khuldu Jahid Khan threw everything in the meeting room and said, “I will kill him. For forty-six years, I have been looking for a way to kill that useless immigrant.”
Someone said, “Sir, this matter is serious. You know no one can break Malik. Even if heaven and earth are joined together, no one can defeat him. And if you think you can buy people’s hearts, you can never buy the fear inside them. They did not vote for Malik; they only looked at the stories of what he had done.”
He continued, “If there is a way you can follow, then you must follow it. But your fight with Malik should not affect the businesses of these innocent people. They have done nothing.”
Mr. Amjad’s heart was shaken. So the stories he had heard about Malik were not even complete. It was only after Elbashir came that he truly understood who Malik was. Malik did not touch them directly, but he had still gotten what he wanted.
The man continued, “And if Malik himself had come, do you think he would not have washed Daylam Yunis with blood? You should teach your people to respect themselves and stop going too far. I have not forgotten when Malik came with that boy; the boy would not even cough unless Malik gave him permission. But because of you, everyone now thinks he has the right to talk. If you are not careful, you will trap yourself. Try to find a way to bring Malik down, and I will stand with you until you do.”
“Alright,” Khuldu said while drinking hot water.
The Prime Minister left. As he was going, his phone rang. His personal assistant handed it to him.
His body began to shake badly. He could not answer. He felt like he would fall.
When they almost reached his car, he finally entered and answered the call.
“Your Excellency,” he said.
The voice on the phone said, “You made a mistake, Prime Minister. Rest in peace.”
The call ended.
Suddenly, some unknown men appeared. They pulled away the personal assistant and the driver, then opened fire on the Prime Minister’s car. They made sure the car caught fire before riding away on their motorcycles.
When Mr. Amjad and the others came out, they saw that despite the Prime Minister’s security officers, he had been killed and his car had been set on fire. Everyone became terrified and ran in different directions.
The incident frightened Mr. Amjad so much that he returned to S Digital Art. When he entered, he did not even park properly. He rushed into the company, feeling as if he might urinate on himself out of fear.
He went straight into the elevator. Only when he was inside did he feel that he had escaped.
“What kind of disaster is this? A family meeting against Mayor Malik Menk Jordan is definitely not the solution.”
His phone vibrated, and he jumped as if he would run before remembering that it was his phone. He had put it on vibration before the meeting.
He answered, “Hello.”
The voice said, “Do not be shaken by what happened. That was not even the full plan. Do you understand?”
Mr. Amjad replied, “By Allah, if you remove me from this matter, I will be happy. Since a Prime Minister could be killed in front of our eyes, what do you think will happen next? Leave me in peace.”
He ended the call.
Mr. Amjad Returns to the Office
When he reached the ninth floor, the elevator opened. His body was still shaking as he walked toward the managing director’s office like someone being chased.
When he entered, he said, “Give me water. I am thirsty.”
Salim gave him water. He drank all of it and asked for more.
“Sir, is everything alright?”
He dropped the bottle, pulled a chair, and sat down. They all stared at him.
“Zeeno, have you not left?” he asked.
She stood and said, “Yes, Sir Amjad.”
He released a breath and asked, “Hussain, what position did she want again?”
“Security service.”
“Does that suit you?” he asked her.
“Yes, sir.”
He looked at her and said, “Zeeno, I wanted to give you a position where you would bring important people to invest in our company. I have told you many times that your beauty is your capital. There are many women looking for the position you are stepping into. Zeenobia, if you accept security service, the monthly tax the Keivroto state government collects from you people will not even be enough. Will you continue banging on politics? How old are you?”
She lowered her head and said, “I am twenty.”
“You see? Use your opportunity. Miss Mary will connect you with Dauduwa. She is skilled in changing a person’s style and appearance. Your salary will be three hundred thousand dollars in US currency. Out of it, you can use fifty thousand dollars to pay tax. What could be better for you?”
She rolled her eyes and said, “I am satisfied. If you will give me this money, I can do anything.”
“Yes, good girl. Now she has agreed. Since you spoke English, Hussain, give me the list of names.”
Hussain brought out a file and handed it to him. He opened it slowly and looked at it.
“So you have sent it to everyone already, and only one remains?”
“Yes, Chairman. I sent it to all of them. The only one left is Mayor Malik Menk Jordan.”
Zenobia suddenly felt pain strike her head, and she held it tightly.
“Are you alright?” they asked.
“I am fine. I will leave.”
The chairman returned the file and said, “Keep it. There is another one I gave you. Give me that one for her.”
Hussain opened the drawer and brought out another file.
“Good. Dauduwa will invite you. These are the people you will start testing your luck with.”
She rolled her eyes and asked, “What about that first file you returned?”
He became frightened and said, “That one? We will burn it. Salim, take it and burn it. Turn on the television so she can hear what is happening. The name in that file is trouble and a disaster, and you are only a girl. Do not put your life and heart into that matter.”
She smiled and said, “Alright, but do not burn it. Let me see how I manage these ones first, then I will return to that one.”
“Can you really handle it?” he asked.
The television was turned on, and she turned to listen to the news.
The News About Mayor Malik Menk Jordan
The newsreader said, “Today, Keivroto city woke up to a terrible event unlike anything seen in the past thirty years, since the killing of Mr. Jahid Khan, father of Mr. Khuldu Jahid Khan, owner of major mining companies and father of the opposition party CDL, Civilian Democrats Labor.”
The report continued, “Since then, there has not been such an explosion until today. Eyewitnesses said they saw four young men on motorcycles. They came down, carried out their evil plan, and killed the honorable Prime Minister.”
“At the moment, the death is being linked to the famous wealthy businessman, Mayor Malik Menk Jordan. Sources confirm that the meeting was held to bring an end to his influence.”
“If you remember, Mayor Malik Menk Jordan is the first person who owns ninety percent of the companies in Keivroto city. He also has the approval of one hundred and six local government leaders. He is also a businessman accused of monopoly and control.”
Then the voice of an eyewitness was played.
“Honestly, if Mayor Malik Menk Jordan is allowed to continue doing whatever he wants, one day Keivroto city will become a graveyard where people are buried, and no one will be able to stop him. For Allah’s sake, how can people live like this?”
Salim turned off the television and said, “Before, I used to hear about Mayor from afar. But today, after hearing that he killed the Prime Minister, I believe that man is a devil. Zeenobia, did you hear?”
She looked at them and said, “Why are you frightened? Is he the one who scares you? As for me, I see him as nothing.”
Salim warned, “Separate yourself from trouble. Mayor Malik Menk Jordan is not someone easy to handle.”
