A Dalilin Kishiya Book One – English Translation
Faruk became lost in deep thought. He was extremely unhappy about the way Husna had been treating him for almost three months.
The problem began when she complained that the household chores had become too much for her and asked him to employ a housemaid. That was why Faruk arranged for Mariya to work in their home.
Initially, Husna repeatedly praised Mariya’s intelligence and calm nature. Then, without warning, she began hating the girl, claiming that Faruk showed her too much concern.
Faruk cared about Mariya because he pitied her. She desperately wanted to continue her education because she genuinely loved learning.
Mariya was also a beautiful young woman. She was not light-skinned but had a lovely chocolate complexion and long, attractive hair. She was an excellent cook and possessed good manners.
Faruk greatly enjoyed her cooking, although he never openly showed it.
Because of Mariya’s discipline and determination, Faruk decided to help her secure admission into either the School of Nursing or UDUTH.
By Allah’s grace, she gained admission into UDUTH. She passed the first entrance examination and was equally successful in the second one.
Faruk was delighted. He paid all her required expenses, allowing her to begin attending lectures.
Faruk deeply loved Husna because theirs had been a love marriage. He never wanted to do anything that would upset her, and he could not bear seeing her tears.
Every member of his family loved her because Husna had always been obedient, generous, and caring towards people.
Faruk could not understand what had suddenly caused her to change so completely.
“Hafsa, I swear you are going to make me angry. Do you want me to spend the night hungry? Am I your equal? You have completely lost respect for me. I am warning you—be careful with me!” Abdulhamid declared as though he wanted to hit her.
“My one and only, please forgive me. I just discovered that the cooking gas is almost finished, which is why the food is taking so long. Please be a little more patient. I will finish everything shortly. Abdulhamid, please forgive me.”
Hafsa spoke as though she was about to cry.
Abdulhamid did not even look at her before walking into his bedroom. Hafsa hurriedly returned to the kitchen.
“Hafsa, let me tell you something. Faruk has changed our car and bought us a Bugatti. I cannot even explain how happy I am,” Husna announced.
Hafsa looked at me as though I had completely lost my senses.
“Husna, are you celebrating simply because your husband changed his car? Let me tell you something: that same car you are admiring will bring you a co-wife. Women nowadays are attracted to men who own expensive cars. Yet you are celebrating the thing that could bring another wife into your marriage.”
“Come on, Hafsa. Why would you say something like that? Please stop predicting misfortune for me. Why do you keep mentioning a co-wife? You know I have repeatedly told you that there will be no co-wife in my house.”
Hafsa burst into laughter.
“That is wonderful, my dear Hajiya. I swear, you must never allow it. Let me tell you what happened to me. The day before yesterday, I saw Abdulhamid chatting with another woman. I smashed his phone, removed the SIM card, and swallowed it.
“He stared at me as though he was about to cry because he knew he couldn’t do anything to me.”
“Hafsa, are you serious? You can now smash Abdulhamid’s phone?” I asked in complete astonishment.
“Is smashing his phone such a big deal? That is one of the mildest punishments I give him whenever I notice that he is beginning to pay attention to another woman.”
Hafsa looked directly at Husna.
“So, if you intend to become wise, you had better do it quickly. I am leaving now because Abdulhamid and I are going out.”
I rested my chin in my hand and began thinking.
So that was it! Faruk intended to bring me a co-wife, and that must have been the reason he changed his car.
“Hmmmmmm!”
I released a long, heavy sigh because I alone knew what I intended to do.
“Masha Allah, my Husna. You look extremely beautiful. We are even wearing matching outfits today without planning it together. Honestly, this further proves how deeply we love each other.”
Husna did not respond positively to Faruk’s compliment.
“Mtsssss! Honestly, you are beginning to irritate me. Is wearing similar clothes such a significant thing? Who knows whether you are going to meet one of your girlfriends? Faruk, get out of my sight!”
I covered my face and burst into tears.
Faruk immediately became confused and began apologising.
“Please, Husna, forgive me. I have repeatedly told you that I don’t pursue other women, and you already know that.”
“No, I don’t know that,” I interrupted.
“All right, Husna. I will be leaving now.”
“Fine,” I answered coldly.
“So you won’t even accompany me outside?”
If the wall answered him, then so did I.
Faruk said nothing more and quietly left.
“Mariya, what exactly is troubling you? You have been behaving unusually for the past two days,” her friend Fauze asked.
“Fauziyya, I swear I am deeply troubled,” Mariya replied as tears of sorrow streamed down her face.
“Please be patient, Mariya. Have you forgotten what Almighty Allah says in the glorious Qur’an? Allah, the Most High, tells us that with every hardship comes ease.
“Be patient and ask Allah to remove all your troubles. Although I don’t know what is worrying you, I pray that Allah relieves you of it. I cannot bear seeing you in such distress.”
Fauze spoke as though she too was about to cry.
“Ameen, Ya Allah. Thank you so much, my friend. Jazakillahu khairan.”
Mariya embraced her friend.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., according to Nigerian and Nigerien time, Faruk noticed a woman standing outside a hospital. She was carrying a small child and desperately searching for transportation.
From her appearance, it was clear that she had been waiting for a long time without finding a vehicle. She had already started walking, hoping to find a commercial tricycle farther down the road.
Faruk was about to drive past when the woman waved him down. He stopped and reversed towards her.
“Please, kind sir, help me by taking me part of the way. I swear I have been searching for transportation for a long time, but I haven’t found any,” she pleaded weakly.
“Okay,” Faruk answered without looking directly at her.
She opened the front passenger door and sat down.
She repeatedly thanked him, explaining that she had tried stopping several people but that no one had helped her. Faruk was the only person kind enough to stop.
She offered many prayers for him and gave him directions to where she was going.
“It appears we are travelling in the same direction,” Faruk observed.
The woman smiled.
“Allah bless you. Thank you so much.”
Meanwhile, Hafsa was sitting on Husna’s bed, encouraging her not to rest until Mariya had been driven out of the house.
Husna immediately agreed with her suggestion.
“Husna, let me leave now. Abdulhamid is waiting for me. He promised to take me shopping today.”
“Look at Baby’s baby! Hafsa, I swear your married life makes me jealous. I wish Faruk treated me the way Abdulhamid treats you.”
“Hmm, Husna. You are the one who lacks wisdom. That is why Faruk doesn’t treat you that way.”
Hafsa adjusted her veil as she prepared to leave.
Faruk had just arrived outside his compound gate when Husna and Hafsa emerged from the house. Husna intended to accompany her friend outside.
Hafsa immediately noticed the woman sitting in the front passenger seat of Faruk’s car.
“Husna! Can’t you see what I’m seeing?” she screamed.
“Hafsa, what did you see?” I anxiously asked.
“Look at the front seat of your husband’s car. What can you see?”
Before Hafsa could finish speaking, I also screamed.
“Hafsa, Faruk has killed me today! I am finished! Faruk intends to bring me a co-wife who already has a child. Today, I will shock him. I swear he will learn a lesson he will never forget.”
When Faruk saw Husna standing by the gate with her friend, he addressed the passenger.
“Madam, this is my house, so I will have to stop here. My wife and her friend are standing outside. You can come down and greet them before leaving.”
The woman thanked him again and agreed.
Before she could step out of the car, Husna charged towards them carrying a heavy iron bar.
Crash! Crash! Crash!
I repeatedly struck Faruk’s car windows with all my strength.
The terrified passenger began screaming at the sight of the destruction.
I then rushed towards her, intending to strike her with the iron bar. However, the moment she saw me approaching, she ran away at incredible speed.
I, Ummu Juwairiyyah, must admit that running was her only sensible option. Was she supposed to let Husna attack her before escaping? 😂😂😂🤣🤣
