But he raised me carelessly. He did not concern himself with anything about me. Whatever his wife did to me, he never said anything. That is the short story of my life.
The Journey to Abuja
Very early in the morning, Hajiya came. We said our goodbyes and started the journey. I met other young women who were also going with us. They were all older than me, and I looked like a little doll among them.
When we reached Gezawa, we found a small vehicle that would take us to Abuja. We were packed inside the vehicle like animals, while Hajiya sat comfortably alone in the front seat.
The journey was long and exhausting. We continued without proper rest until we reached Kaduna. There, the driver stopped, and we came down to rest a little. After that, we continued toward Abuja.
By Allah’s protection, we arrived safely in Abuja and stopped at Kubwa. That was where Hajiya’s house was located. She gave us one room and told us to drop our belongings there.
As for me, I felt as if I had been beaten because I was so tired. I lay down and fell asleep. The other young women who came with us continued talking about their hopes and the kind of houses they wished to be taken to.
But as soon as sleep carried me away, I knew nothing else until morning.

Method

Method
- Wash the lettuce, cabbage, cucumber, and green pepper. Allow them to drain, then slice them into your preferred shapes.
- Scrape the carrot, wash it, and grate it.
- Combine the sliced vegetables with the grated carrot. Add a little lime juice, but not too much. Add groundnut oil and seasoning cube, then mix everything together. Pour it into a salad bowl and serve.
Zobo Drink

- Zobo leaves
- Ginger

- Pineapple
- Cucumber
- Sugar

Method
- Wash the zobo leaves and add enough water to cover them. Place on the fire with ginger, pineapple peel, and crushed cloves. Crushing the cloves helps bring out their aroma better than adding them whole.
- When the zobo has boiled properly, remove it from the fire and pour it into a large container to cool.
- Peel and cut the pineapple and cucumber into small pieces for easy blending. Blend them, strain the juice, and continue blending and straining until you get the quantity you want.
