Abulle Ta Mai Unguwa Book One Complete Hausa Novel
Abulle Ta Mai Unguwa Book One Complete Hausa Novel opens with two outspoken young women approaching the neighbourhood head’s palace while arguing loudly about friendship, jealousy, food and a young man named Hamisu.
Their humorous quarrel attracts the attention of the neighbourhood head, who watches one of the women closely as she carries a tray of goods on her head and threatens to confront her romantic rival.
The Neighbourhood Head Watches From His Palace
The neighbourhood head sat on his traditional chair while members of his council surrounded him on a large woven mat.
They were engaged in lively conversation, exchanging stories and discussing different matters concerning the community.
From the moment the two young women began approaching the palace, the neighbourhood head kept his eyes fixed on one of them.
She carried a tray of goods on her head. Her wrapper had been tied tightly around her waist with a scarf, while her face was heavily covered with makeup and an excessive amount of powder.
She complained angrily as she walked, speaking with such intensity that foam almost appeared around her mouth.
Abuwa Threatens to Deal With Indo
“Karime, I swear that tomorrow I will deal seriously with Indo,” Abuwa declared.
“That shameless troublemaker could not find anyone else to talk to except Hamisu, the love of my life.”
She angrily adjusted the tray on her head.
“I swear by the Qur’an, I feel like throwing these goods away, finding that foolish girl and beating her until she regrets everything.”
Karime Blames Abuwa for the Problem
Karime looked at her with irritation.
“Abuwa, how long have I been warning you to stay away from that troublesome girl?” she asked.
“Your habit of inviting everyone into your life is what brought someone who now wants to steal your boyfriend.”
“Was my friendship not enough for you?”
Abuwa examined her from head to toe before twisting her lips dismissively.
Abuwa Defends Her Friendship With Indo
“Have you forgotten whose daughter she is?” Abuwa asked.
“She is the daughter of the neighbourhood head. Every Friday, we visit their house and eat rice.”
She gave Karime another mocking look.
“Has rice ever been cooked in your house even once?”
“The only time you had any was when your elder brother travelled in a long-distance vehicle, worked as a commercial driver in the city and brought some home for your family.”
Karime Accuses Abuwa of Greed
Karime became visibly angry.
“You shameless and greedy girl,” she replied.
“You have finally exposed yourself. From the moment I noticed how closely you followed Indo, I knew there had to be another reason.”
She folded her arms across her chest.
“That explains why you always send me away whenever I try to accompany you on your Friday visits.”
“Now you are proudly saying rice has only been cooked once in our house. How many times have I eaten in your own house?”
The Argument Turns to Food
“Not even once,” Abuwa replied.
“But you always come because you are hoping to eat millet meal with red soup.”
Karime hissed angrily.
“What nonsense!” she exclaimed.
“You are talking about food that may not even be prepared for three or four weeks.”
“Whenever it is finally cooked, you become selfish and begin frowning at me. You puff up your face like the large fried cakes sold beside the market.”
Abuwa Attempts to Attack Karime
“May trouble strike you!” Abuwa shouted.
“So I am the large fried cake? I swear, I will climb on that wide mouth of yours and rain blows upon your lips, you daughter of a worthless—”
Before completing the insult, Abuwa lowered the tray containing her cooked groundnuts and moved directly towards Karime, intending to grab her.
Karime quickly stepped aside and avoided her.
“Do you think I will stand here and allow you to beat me?” she asked.
“I swear, I will tell Indo that the only reason you visit her family is because you are greedy for their food.”
A Loud Quarrel Outside the Palace
The two friends continued exchanging insults as they stood close to the neighbourhood head’s palace.
Abuwa was furious because she believed Indo was attempting to take Hamisu away from her.
Karime, however, believed Abuwa had only become close to Indo because of the free meals served in her wealthy family home every Friday.
Neither woman appeared aware that the neighbourhood head and members of his council were listening to their embarrassing argument.
