Abdul Jay Book One Complete Hausa Novel English Translation

Abdul Jay was in his room, doing nothing but crying. From the look of things, one could say he had not eaten anything that day.

When he heard a knock at the door, he stood with difficulty and went to open it.

It was Baba, their neighbor. They entered together, and Baba sat down while looking at him.

Baba said, “So you will not stop crying, Abduljabbar? Haba, are you not a man? Why do you not have patience? What they need now is prayer. You should pray for them. They are not the first people to die. Everyone must die, even though I know your own loss is very painful.”

He continued, “There are people who lost their loved ones suddenly. There are people whose loved ones drowned in water. Yet they accepted destiny. You too must be patient and keep praying for mercy upon your parents.”

Abdul only nodded to show that he had heard. He could not speak because he had cried so much that day.

Baba then said, “Good. I also know you have not eaten. Here, eat this food in front of me.”

Abdul shook his head to show that he was full and would not eat.

Baba said, “You see? If we leave you like this, you will destroy yourself. Take it and eat.”

Baba insisted until Abdul ate the food. After making sure he had finished, Baba stood up.

He said, “Are you sure I should leave you to sleep alone in this house? Stand up, let us go to my house.”

In a weak voice, Abdul said, “I can manage, Baba. Leave it. Thank you. I can sleep here.”

Baba smiled when he heard him speak. He touched Abdul’s head gently and left.

Abdul’s Night of Prayer

That night, Abdul spent his time in prayer. He kept asking Allah to forgive his parents and have mercy on them.

As for Hasinat, since the time Aisha left, she had gone to sleep. She slept deeply and knew nothing until Maghrib prayer passed and Isha prayer also passed. It was around 8:30 p.m. before she woke up.

She stood, prayed Maghrib and Isha, then sat down. It was then she remembered her mother. She had not seen her mother at all that day since they met in the morning.

She stood and went to her mother’s room.

With greetings, she opened the door.

Mommy, who was under a blanket, answered weakly.

Hasinat quickly moved closer.

“Mom, are you alright? What is wrong with you?” she asked while removing the blanket.

Mommy looked at her and smiled.

“Nothing, Hasinat. I am not feeling well. You are back?”

Hasinat said, “Mom, get up. Let us go to the hospital.”

She tried to help her mother up, but Mommy shook her head.

“No, Hasinat. It is nothing. Leave it. My sickness only became worse again.”

Hasinat’s eyes filled with tears.

“Mommy, please, why are you hiding this heart illness from me? Haba, Mom, if you do not tell me, who will tell me?”

Mommy replied, “No, Hasinat. You know illness is like that. Whenever Allah wills, it comes. So stop thinking that something else has happened.”

Hasinat only nodded.

“Alright, Mom. Have you taken medicine?”

Mommy hummed softly with a smile.

Hasinat said, “Good. Let me go to the parlor and wait for Daddy. You know the company sent a request for a house design. I have drawn three different samples. When Daddy returns, we will choose the best one. You know that if I am not in the company, Daddy’s company is nothing.”

Mommy forced a laugh.

Hasinat laughed and said, “Good. You see? I have made you laugh.”

She covered her mother again with the blanket and left.

Hasinat at Work

Hasinat returned to the parlor and continued with her drawing until her father came back.

When he arrived, he chose the design they would use, then went to check on his wife and find out what was wrong with her.

When he reached her room, he knocked, but she refused to respond. He could not do anything, so he left, giving her space. He went to his own room and slept.

Abdul at the Graveyard

At early dawn, J Man stood and went out. He headed to the graveyard.

He sat there without fear, crying and praying for his parents.

As he later walked away while praying, he suddenly bumped into something. He stepped back and looked at it.

It was a large bag.

He almost walked past it, then returned, squatted, said Bismillah, and opened the bag.

The first thing his eyes saw was a piece of paper. He picked it up and began reading.

The note said:

“Peace be upon whoever finds this bag. It is given for the sake of Allah. But please, whoever finds it should be a poor person. This is a large amount of money. Use it to start a business. If Allah opens your way through it, then you too should do the same for someone else, just as this has been done for you. I hope the reader understands what I mean. Peace.”

The Mysterious Money

J Man looked at the bag.

“What is the use of this money?” he said. “It has no value to me now that Baba and Mama are dead.”

He opened the bag further and became silent in thought.

Then another thought came to him.

“How will you take revenge, J Man? How? You know that in this life, almost everything needs money. Do you think, in your present condition, you can take revenge?”

He looked at the bag again, then picked it up and went home.

When he reached the house, no one was at the entrance because morning had not fully broken.

He entered and thought, “Where will I keep this money? I know its purpose will come one day. I will wait for that time. But I will not use it now.”

He went outside and brought a hoe.

He dug a deep hole until he was sure the bag would fit. Then he placed the bag inside, covered it, and returned the place to its normal appearance.

He sat down there, breathing heavily because he had worked hard.

When he heard a knock at the gate, he stood and went out.

It was their neighbors.

They greeted him and comforted him.

He forced a smile and said, “We thank Allah.”

One of them said, “Here is a mat. Bring out some more from inside and spread them. People will sit for condolences.”

He nodded, collected the mat, put it down, and went inside.

Hasinat’s Strange Dream

Hasinat was sleeping and sweating heavily.

In her dream, Aisha had become the madam of the house and was controlling her harshly, even more than Hasinat herself used to control Aisha.

She woke up in fear around six o’clock and looked at the time.

“What does this mean?” she wondered.

“Does it mean Aisha will become my superior? May Allah protect me. If this is truly going to happen, I do not know what I will do. I might even die.”

When she noticed tears falling from her eyes, she became even more disturbed.

“It is only a dream,” she told herself. “How can I believe such a thing?”

She quickly stood, entered the bathroom, performed ablution, and prayed. She even prayed extra prayers, asking Allah to make sure the dream would not become reality.

After finishing, she bathed and prepared because she needed to go to the office early that day to send the design work she had completed.

Hasinat Sees Aisha Differently

When Hasinat came downstairs, she went to her mother with greetings.

“Mom, how is your health?” she asked, touching her mother’s neck.

Mommy smiled.

“I am better, Hasinat. You are already dressed today? So you and your father are going to the office?”

“Yes, Mom. I have something to do.”

Mom only nodded.

Aisha, who was standing nearby, felt happy when she saw Hasinat. To her, it was as if Hasinat had changed somehow.

In her gentle voice, Aisha said, “Good morning, Aunty. Did you wake up well?”

Hasinat quickly looked at her.

She stared at Aisha so much that Aisha became suspicious of herself and looked down at her own body, wondering what was wrong.

Hasinat only said, “Hmm,” before answering her greeting and sitting down.

Aisha began serving her food.

Daddy also entered with greetings and sat down. Food was served for him too.

He touched Hasinat’s head and said, “My daughter, you are ready? So we are going to the office together?”

“Yes, Daddy,” she replied.

He smiled and looked at Mommy.

“Good morning, Madam,” he said because she had not greeted him.

“Good morning,” she replied only because Aisha was present.

Hasinat smiled quietly.

Daddy answered and said nothing more, but he told himself that when he returned, he would ask for forgiveness.

After they finished, he and Hasinat left for the office.

Abdul Attacks His Uncle

People kept coming to Abdul’s house for condolences. His coworkers from the garage were also present.

His uncle drove in, parked, and came out while forcing tears.

He greeted the people present, then turned to Abdul Jay.

He said, “So your father was respecting me while alive, yet he died and you did not inform me? I had to hear it from people. Is this how you want people to insult me and say I do nothing for you? Even the rice that is cooked when someone dies, I do not see you preparing it. You are trying to bring shame to me.”

Before he could finish, J Man grabbed him by the neck.

The man could not speak. Tears filled Abdul’s eyes while his uncle’s eyes widened in fear.

People struggled before they finally pulled the man away from Abdul’s hand.

J Man turned his head away, breathing heavily.

Their neighbor said, “Haba, Abdul. He is like a father to you.”

Abdul replied angrily, “He is not my father. If he truly loved my father, when I went to him seeking help, what did he tell me? He knows what he said. I do not need him here. I see no benefit in his coming. I know he is only happy about my father’s death. Let him leave.”

He was breathing like someone ready to fight a lion.

Without saying anything more, his uncle left because he had been badly frightened.

Hafiz Visits Hasinat

Hasinat was seated in her office, typing seriously, when Hafiz opened the door with greetings and entered.

She hissed when she noticed he had come again.

He smiled when he heard her hiss because he was used to it.

He said, “Greetings to the queen of all women.”

A smile escaped her before she could stop it.

When he saw that she smiled, he continued teasing her.

“Daughter of Alhaji, daughter of Hajiya, do whatever you like. Step on whoever you want. Here you are, and no one can do anything to you.”

She stopped what she was doing and looked at him.

“If I truly had that status, I would have stepped on you long ago. By Allah, you are disturbing me. Leave me alone. I have told you I do not love you. Is love by force?”

He adjusted his sitting position.

“Have you not heard there is a book called Dole Ki Soni, meaning You Must Love Me? Who knows, maybe that is how ours will be.”

She said, “That is for that story. If you try it with me, you will regret it. I am not like that girl. If the man in that story succeeded, you will not succeed. Hafiz, please leave my office. I do not even want to see you.”

He said, “Okay, as you wish. But I will continue praying. Though, by Allah, if going to a sorcerer were not wrong, nothing would stop me from going.”

She hissed.

“Look, let me leave the office for you.”

He quickly stood up.

“No, I do not want to disturb you. Stay. I will leave now.”

He smiled and left.

She watched him go, remembering when she first met Hafiz. Her car had broken down on the road, and he helped her until she reached home. Since then, he had stuck to her, claiming he loved her by force.

But she truly did not love him because he did not suit her.

She shrugged and stood to go to her father’s office.

Hasinat and Her Father’s Business Plan

She opened the office door with greetings.

Her father was sitting with his P.A and the accountant, who was calculating the money they had made that week.

They all stood and greeted her. She answered and sat down.

“Dad, are you working?” she asked.

He replied, “Yes, but we are almost done. They will soon leave. Have you come so we can discuss the matter?”

“Yes, Dad.”

After they finished, he dismissed the workers, and they left.

He sat facing Hasinat seriously.

“Hasinat.”

Hearing him call her name, she knew it was an important matter, so she adjusted her sitting position.

He explained, “There is a new construction material business we have seen from Ghana. They sell modern building finishing materials. The designs are beautiful. They are used for modern houses. Instead of ordinary paint, you can choose any design you want, such as an underwater design with fish, sky design, garden design, and many others.”

He continued, “I want to bring them to Nigeria. I know people will buy them because I have already started advertising, and many people have shown interest. I decided not to make a final decision without asking you first.”

He added, “All our profit is currently inside the company. I will use it, then also borrow money from the bank because the company’s money alone is not enough. The bank loan will even be bigger than what we have.”

Hasinat looked at him.

“Daddy, what kind of goods are these that all the company’s profit is not enough? Are you sure there will be no problem?”

He replied, “There will be no problem, my daughter.”

Hasinat said, “Alright, Daddy. But why not buy only what the company’s profit can afford? I do not trust working with banks. They are not kind. Daddy, I do not want a situation where a problem will happen and they will do whatever they like to us.”

He held her hand.

“Haba, Hasinat. I only need your prayers. I have not even told your mother because everything we do is with you. That is why I asked for your advice. Do not discourage me.”

She smiled weakly.

“Alright. May Allah give us success.”

He said happily, “That is what I want to hear from you.”

She nodded, but for some reason, her mind was not at peace with the business. She disliked the idea of joining hands with banks because she knew what could happen if someone borrowed their money and later faced difficulties.

Mommy Advises Hasinat

Aisha was rushing out to buy the shampoo Hasinat had asked her to get before returning.

She entered Mommy’s room with greetings, but Mommy did not answer. She was sitting deeply lost in thought.

Aisha became worried and touched her gently.

Mommy quickly returned to herself and looked at Aisha.

“Aisha, are you leaving? Have you finished your work?”

Aisha replied, “No, I am going on an errand Aunty sent me. Mommy, are you not feeling well?”

Mommy asked, “What did you see?”

“Nothing. I will go now.”

Mommy nodded, and Aisha left.

Hasinat was driving, but her mind was unsettled. She kept thinking about J Man, the mechanic who had fixed her car. She wanted to see him.

She hissed and asked herself, “What is wrong with me? I just want to see him. Maybe he has taken the money I gave him.”

She shrugged and turned the car. Although she was already close to home, she changed direction and went toward J Man’s garage.

To her annoyance, when she arrived, she found no one there. She was about to leave when she saw their boss come out.

She got down and went to him.

She greeted him and said, “Where is the one who fixed my car yesterday? His work was not good. He only made it worse. The car now makes noise, and I do not like it. I came so he can fix it again, and I will not pay even one kobo.”

The man replied, “Allah sarki. There was a death. Even now, I am coming from there and will return there. I only came to pick something.”

Hasinat said, “Allah sarki. Let us go. I will reduce the distance for you.”

The man looked at her, not fully understanding her behavior. Was she interested in J Man?

He thanked her and entered the car. She took him to the place and parked by the side. When he came down, he thanked her again.

Her eyes fell on J Man, who sat looking thin and weak. Immediately, she felt pity for him. Then she drove away.

When she got home, she called the driver and told him to pick up her father later. Then she entered the house.

She went to her mother with greetings.

“Mom, how is the house? I am back. Allah, I really worked today.”

Mommy smiled and said, “Welcome.”

Hasinat said, “Let me go inside.”

Mommy said, “Sit. We need to talk.”

Hasinat sat, looking at her mother.

Mommy asked, “Hasinat, when will you get married? Do you not want me to see your children?”

Hasinat pushed her lips forward.

“Mom, you have started again. Marriage is destined. When it comes, I will marry. Leave me alone, Mom. And you will not die without seeing my children.”

Mommy sighed.

“Hasinat, you do not know that I am close to death. I can feel it in my body. Do you not know that when a person is close to death, sometimes they can sense it?”

Hasinat widened her eyes.

“By Allah, Mom, you never say something good. I have never seen someone inviting death upon herself like you.”

She began crying.

Mommy held her hand.

“That is not what I mean, Hasinat.”

She continued, “What I want from you is to reduce this hot temper of yours. Stop taking the world with anger. Are you not afraid that one day the world may turn against you? If it turns against you, you will not enjoy it. No one suffers like a rich person whose world turns upside down when he has no trust in Allah.”

She said, “Hasinat, stop what you are doing. This wealth you see is nothing compared to the wealth of some people.”

Hasinat interrupted, “Mom, what is making you say all this?”

Mommy covered her mouth gently.

“I do not want too much talk. Listen to me. Hasinat, I know you do not know, but there are people who want revenge against your father. Do you think if he dies, they will stop? No. They will come back, Hasinat.”

She added, “Hasinat, I have only a little time left. That is why I am advising you.”

Hasinat became silent. Then she stood and left.

Mommy watched her go.
