Auren Shehu Book Two Complete Hausa Novel English Translation

Early the next morning, Zainab went to Anty Sauda’s house. There, she had breakfast. Anty Sauda gave her a large amount of money for registration, personal expenses, and even money to buy a phone. After that, she took her to the supermarket and bought many things for her, just like Daddy used to do whenever she was returning to school.

Even her flight ticket was bought by Anty Sauda. Ammy only watched everything silently.

The next morning, Anty Sauda came and took Zainab along. Hajja Kilishi asked whether Zainab would not wait for her sisters’ wedding, but Anty Sauda replied,

“When the time comes, she will return. It is not a big issue.”

Zainab said goodbye to everyone except Halitta, because even under normal circumstances, they hardly spoke unless it was necessary.

Anty Sauda took Zainab to the airport and waited until she was sure their plane had taken off before returning home.

When the plane landed in Yola, Zainab called Anty Sauda to inform her. It was Anty Sauda who later told Ammy that her daughter had landed safely and had returned to school.

Ammy, who was deeply unhappy about Zainab’s situation, prayed for her. She asked Allah to guide Zainab, help her finish her studies safely, and if Allah allowed her to return home permanently, then they would know the true position of her marriage. If Usman returned before then, they would send him to the school to meet her there.

Rugar Shehu Prepares to Leave Falgore

Meanwhile, in Rugar Shehu, the people of the settlement were preparing to leave the Falgore forest. No matter how much Baffa Mudi tried to confuse them with his tricks, the people did not stop preparing. They were fully committed to leaving, with the support of Usman, who within a short time had gained the love of the people of the Ruga, both young and old.

During the remaining days before their departure, Usman visited his grandmother’s grave every day. He would spend hours there, crying and praying for her.

One day before they were to leave, heavy rain fell throughout the night in Rugar Shehu. No one was able to sleep because they feared their huts might collapse. The rain lasted for almost five hours before it finally stopped.

Immediately after the rain stopped, Bello’s screams and cries spread across Rugar Shehu.

Usman rushed to him quickly. To his surprise, he found Bello rolling on the ground while a strange black substance came out of his mouth.

“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un!” Usman exclaimed.

He held Bello up without wasting time and began reciting the ruqyah verses he had learned from Malam. He was certain that Bello’s condition could only be caused by either magic or a jinn-related attack.

They spent almost thirty minutes in that condition. Neighbors had all entered and stood around the hut in shock. Among them was Kawu Iliya.

After some time, Bello released a heavy breath. Then his body became silent and cold like that of a dead person.

Usman Fears Bello Is Dead

Seeing this, Usman became terrified. He began shaking Bello while calling his name loudly.

When Kawu Iliya heard him, he quickly entered the room and tried to check Bello by placing his head against Bello’s chest.

In shock, Usman said, “So Muhammadu Bello has followed Iya too. Muhammadu Bello has left me alone, Kawu Iliya.”

Kawu Iliya replied, “Muhammadu Bello has not gone anywhere. He is alive, because his heart is still beating.”

Kawu Iliya adjusted Bello’s position and continued,

“Whatever was done to Muhammadu has pushed him into a condition that looks like the effect of old magic or the breaking of an old magical attack. It will be better for you to remain here with him and continue blowing prayers over him. Insha Allah, he will wake up healthy.”

Usman tried to calm his heart and accept Kawu Iliya’s explanation. After they exchanged words, Usman sat beside Bello and continued praying over him as Kawu Iliya had instructed.

He remained there until the caller of prayer in Rugar Shehu called the people for Fajr. Usman then went out for prayer.

Muhammadu Bello’s Voice Returns

After the prayer ended, Usman returned and heard something amazing, something he thought he would never hear again until he returned to his Creator. It was Bello’s voice striking his ears.

Bello was saying, “Shehu… Shehu… Can you hear my voice, or am I speaking to you only in my heart as I used to do?”

“La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah, sallallahu alaihi wasallam!” Usman said.

He fell to the ground in prostration, thanking Allah.

When he raised his head, he embraced Muhammadu Bello with tears of joy and said,

“Muhammadu Bello, I can hear your voice. Muhammadu, Allah has returned your voice to you. So I will hear your voice again? If only Iya were alive, Muhammad. Today, her wish has come true, but there is no chance to tell her.”

Just as Usman was crying tears of joy, Bello was also crying.

Bello said, “I will tell Iya. When daylight comes, I will go and tell her. I will pray for Iya openly, not only in my heart. I will greet Iya. May Allah allow her to hear me, Shehu.”

Usman replied with love and affection for his brother,

“She will hear you, Muhammadu Bello. She will hear you by Allah’s permission.”

The Secret Behind Bello’s Silence

By morning, the news that Muhammadu Bello’s voice had returned spread throughout Rugar Shehu.

The news made Baffa Mudi rush to the graveyard of Rugar Shehu in deep fear. He wanted an answer to the question troubling his mind.

How had Muhammadu Bello’s voice returned when the charm he used to silence him had been buried with the body of the caller of prayer? As long as the corpse had not been dug up, Muhammadu Bello was never supposed to speak again on earth.

There, Baffa Mudi found the answer to his question.

The rainy season had affected the old graveyard, which had long been filled. The heavy rain from the previous night had flooded the graveyard and opened some old graves. Apart from white burial cloths, nothing else was moving there.

Baffa Mudi said, “Indeed, rainy season, you are wicked. I am sure this rain has exposed the secret I buried years ago. If I do not find that charm and bury it again with another dead person, then my secret will be exposed.”

He removed his turban and placed it aside. Then he entered the muddy water and began searching for the charm.

Baffa Mudi Is Exposed

While Baffa Mudi was still searching, Usman and Bello arrived.

With tears in his eyes, Bello called out,

“Kawu Mudi, is this what you are looking for?”

He raised the charm, which he had found early that morning when he and Usman visited their grandmother’s grave. The rain had washed it toward Iya’s grave.

When Baffa Mudi saw what was in Bello’s hand and saw how Usman’s expression had completely changed, fear seized him. The way Usman was looking at him made it seem as if, if someone gave Usman a knife, he could rush at him.

Baffa Mudi walked toward them weakly. He knelt on both knees before them and said,

“I wronged you. I betrayed your father. Please, forgive me and do not expose my secret. Whatever you want, I will do it. Even if it is the leadership of this Ruga, I have given it up for you. All I ask is that you cover my shame. After all, I am your father’s younger brother, and I now have a family and old age.”

Usman shouted, “Did you know that before doing all the things you did?”

He continued, “You wronged us. You wronged your own daughter. You wronged our parents. But above all, you wronged yourself, and you still have the mouth to ask for your shame to be covered?”

Baffa Mudi said with a trembling voice, “Please, not because of my character, but for the sake of Allah. Remember that Allah loves covering people’s faults. Please cover my shame.”

Usman looked at him and said,

“If it is a matter of covering your shame, we can cover it. But on one condition.”

Baffa Mudi quickly said, “Whatever the condition is, I agree. I will obey it.”

Usman said, “The condition is that we will leave this forest. I will not stop those who love you from staying with you. But never, even by mistake, step your foot where we are. If you make the mistake of following us, Baffa Mudi, or if you try to ruin this journey through your usual charms and tricks, then death will be better for you.”

Baffa Mudi nodded repeatedly and said,

“I agree, just Shehu. I agree. You are forgiving. Insha Allah, I will keep your condition.”

With that, he stood and returned to Rugar Shehu filled with shame.

As for Usman, they set fire to the charm containing Muhammadu Bello’s name and burned it.

Rugar Shehu Leaves the Forest

That whole day was spent repairing the graveyard.

The next morning, after Usman and Bello went to greet their grandmother’s grave and prayed for her, they made sure her grave was protected in a way that water would never expose it again.

After that, they gathered their belongings, sleeping mats, and everything they owned, and they began leaving the Falgore forest.

Baffa Mudi watched helplessly as Usman drove away all the cattle belonging to the house of Shehu, leaving him not even one. The cattle were extremely many. If anyone tried to count them, it would be said that the person was only wasting time.

Almost all the people of the Ruga followed Usman. Only a few stayed behind with Baffa Mudi.

Weddings in Malam’s House

While Rugar Shehu was changing direction, the weddings of Halitta and the others were held in Malam’s house. There was no big gathering. The marriages were simply tied.

Zainab did not attend the wedding ceremony, let alone call the brides to pray for them.

Her greatest pain was that Sudais wanted to travel to Saudi Arabia with Halitta because of the job he had gotten there. As for Zinaru, she was taken to her husband’s house that same day.

Zainab did not change her ways at all. The way she had been living before was the same way she continued after returning to school. She even opened a new Instagram account after buying an expensive phone with the apple logo and continued her careless lifestyle as usual.

Usman Builds a New Rugar Shehu

For two weeks, Usman and his people kept moving from one forest to another. They passed through different areas, stayed where necessary, and continued trying to protect farmers’ rights by preventing the cattle from entering farmlands.

Eventually, they reached a forest in the northeastern side of the south. The forest was a crossing point between the south and the north.

The forest was filled with fruit trees, water, good weather, and wide open land. Because of this, they quickly settled there permanently.

For three days, they built huts. Those among them who had knowledge of spiritual protection also worked on securing the forest. They entered every corner of it and strengthened the area until it became like home to them. Even the snakes of the forest became aware that Rugar Shehu had been established there.

Within two months, Usman had built his own leadership. His position as Shehu became strong, especially because Allah had blessed him with the knowledge he had learned from Malam.

Seeing how he had developed and how he still had no wife, many household heads began offering Usman wives from among the young women of Rugar Shehu. Many of the proud young women in the settlement dreamed of becoming Shehu’s wife.

But Usman always gave them the excuse that he would accept later. He said there was something he had left in Kano, and until he brought that thing back, he was not ready for marriage.

Usman Returns to Kano

Two months and one week after the establishment of the new Rugar Shehu, Usman prepared fully to go and collect what he had left behind. He appointed Muhammadu Bello to watch over their Ruga until he returned.

Returning to Kano was not easy for him because they had not entered the forest by car. They had traveled on foot.

With great difficulty and by Allah’s help, he found a vehicle that took him to Mambila. From there, he got another vehicle to Taraba, and from Taraba, he found one going directly to Kano.

When Isa and the others saw Usman, they were greatly surprised by how much he had changed. He looked stronger and more dignified, as if he had taken a special medicine for charisma. Jauro especially held himself back because even he knew there was a clear difference between the old Usman and the Usman standing before them now.

Ammy also welcomed him warmly. She had returned to Kano with Falmat after completing her waiting period.

From Ammy, Usman heard the story of Halitta’s marriage and learned that she was now in Saudi Arabia with her husband. He was very happy and prayed for her.

But when Ammy brought up Zainab and asked him why he left without saying goodbye, he said,

“Please forgive me. The matter came suddenly, and that is why I returned to correct things. Is she here?”

He asked whether Zainab was there, not because he cared about the answer Ammy would give, but because he already knew one thing: he had come to take her with him. Whether she was there or not, he would give her only one day to return to him wherever he was.

Ammy explained to him that Zainab was in school at her university in Yola. She told him not to worry because Zainab would soon start her exams, and after she returned, only two or three months would remain before she completed her studies entirely.

In his heart, Usman said, “Her schooling ends from tomorrow.”

But outwardly, he said, “It is nothing. It will feel like today. May Allah grant success.”

They lodged him in the same BQ that Malam had given them before.

Usman Calls Zainab Back

Allah answered Usman’s prayer because some of Zainab’s belongings were still in the room. That night, he cut a piece from one of the black clothes she had left behind. He added some scented leaves he had brought from Rugar Shehu.

After locking the room, he lit charcoal until it became red and hot. Then he took the piece of cloth he had cut and placed it with the scented leaves on the burning charcoal.

With a wicked smile, he watched the cloth burn while smoke rose from it.

He said, “Just as your cloth is burning, your heart will burn until you leave everything behind and come to me, Zainab. Just as this smoke follows itself, so will you follow me wherever I place my foot, my wife, Abu.”
